In the last few years, IBM software has evolved extensively from traditional installation on bare metal or virtual machines to containers on OpenShift platform or Kubernetes. This article summaries, in general, what are the deployment and platform options available when you are looking to install IBM software. We will take specified examples based on IBM integration products within the Cloud Pak for Integration portfolio.

I have drawn up a simple chart the illustrate the available deployment and platform options.

If you look at the product in Cloud Pak for Integration (v2022.1), we could map out the deployment options in the following table.

Recently, I was approached to share my experience in how best to automate the installation and configuration of the entire stack of API Connect environments.

The following diagram show ONE strategy on how you can do that for API Connect deployed on OpenShift (via the Cloud Pak for Integration). Note that this strategy is not the only way.
